Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton
(RWJ Hamilton) opened its first healing garden in
2001 to complement its clinical expertise by
providing serene, contemplative outdoor spaces
designed for healing. The gardens offer a complete
sensory experience and feature lush greenery,
aquatic elements, detailed stonework, and
comfortable seating areas. They also promote an
appreciation for art as each garden has been carefully
planned in conjunction with artisans associated with
the nationally acclaimed Grounds For Sculpture Park
and Museum.
Today, RWJ Hamilton is proud to offer four
Grounds For Healing® gardens which demonstrate
therapeutic relaxation and an array of medical
benefits such as measurable improvements in
brainwave activity, in memory, clarity of speech,
and marked improvements in blood pressure and
circulatory processes.
The newest Grounds For Healing® coincides with the
recent addition of the four-story Lakefront Patient
Tower. This garden can be viewed
from nearly every vantage point within the new
building in addition to being a welcome place for
visitors and employees to gather.
Establishing each Grounds For Healing® is made
possible by the committed support of individuals and
corporations who contribute toward the walkways,
landscape design and the gardens' features which
include greenery and sculptures, as well as pavers
and benches.
PAVERS and BENCHES
Two of the most popular giving
opportunities that directly
support the Grounds For Healing® include
"pavers and benches." Paver pathways guide visitors
through the serene gardens. The elegant engraving of
donor names and messages on the pavers and benches
honor contributions and bring life to the stone pathways.
